This beautifully handcrafted Gurulu Raksha mask represents the mythical bird demon from Sri Lankan folklore, traditionally associated with protection against snake-related influences. The Gurulu (Garuda) is a powerful bird-like figure believed to dominate serpents, symbolizing strength, protection, and balance.

The mask features a distinctive bird-like face with a curved beak, large expressive eyes, and vibrant wing-shaped side panels. Above the face, a stylized cobra rises, representing the connection between the Gurulu and serpent mythology in Sri Lankan culture.

Traditionally used in ritual performances and healing ceremonies such as the Sanni Yakuma, the Gurulu Raksha plays an important role in balancing opposing forces, particularly between birds and serpents.
